Check passports and other identity documents for fraud prevention!

The most popular way of credit fraud — is using invalid documents for identity confirmation. Fraudsters can use lost or stolen documents, documents of deceased persons or canceled documents.

You can identify the use of such a document, by checking the existence of the corresponding record in the following registers:

A request to the identity verification service of the Ukrainian Bureau of Credit Histories, allows you to check a passport against all the above-mentioned registers.

The following document types will be checked:

  • passport of a citizen of Ukraine,
  • ID passport,
  • travel passport,
  • biometric passport,
  • crew member identity.

The service does not provide legal confirmation of the validity of the document, and cannot guarantee its authenticity, however it reports the document as being compromised, if it is present in any of the registers.

What tasks does it perform?

Risk mitigation at the stage of identification or verification of identity, using identity documents.

Frequently asked questions

How the documents get into the registers?

In case of contacting the police, regarding the theft of a passport, its data is entered into the register of stolen/lost passports of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

If a person contacts the State Migration Service of Ukraine / Passport Service / Administration Service Center to register passport loss, and obtain a new document, or if a document is canceled by reason of a person’s death, expiration of the document, etc., information about the document is entered into the register of invalid passports of the State Migration Service of Ukraine.

In order to record a passport in the register of lost passports of UBCH, the owner just needs to fill out the corresponding application on UBCH’s website.

Why can a document be present in one of the registers, and absent in the others, and is this a reason to consider it as invalid?

If a document is present in at least one of the register, it shall be considered as being invalid. Presence of a document in a particular register, depends on the circumstances of its loss/cancellation, as well as on the stage of the process of restoring the document by its owner.

For example, if a passport owner could not contact the police, regarding the loss of the document, and contacted the State Migration Service at once, to request its re-issue, the information on the document will be present only in the register of the State Migration Service. Or, alternatively, if the loss was reported to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, but the application for re-issue of the document has not yet been submitted to the State Migration Service, the document will be present only in the register of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Reporting the loss of a passport to UBCH — is the easiest way, therefore the information on the document may appear in the UBCH register earlier than in other registers.
